O with circumflex(О̂ о̂;О̂ о̂) is a character in theCyrillic Alpha bet.The letter was created and in the most common version of theUdege language'sAlpha bet: theKhabarovsk version,used for the northern dialects.[1][2]This letter has also been used historically in theUkrainian languageand formally used in theRusyn language.[3]
Usage
edit- M. O. Maksymovychproposed new letters for usage in theUkrainianAlphabet, based on theetymologicalprinciples of spelling to preserve the old writing of Ukrainian. Of the letters proposed О̂ was one of them.[4]
- It was also used inPolish Cyrillicin the 1860s.
- It is also used in some dialects of some South Slavic languages such asBulgarianandSerbian.[5]
