Ophthalmolebias ilheusensisis akillifishfrom thefamilyRivulidaewhich isendemictoBrazilwhere it is only known from river floodplains nearIlhéusinBahia.[1]Fishbasehas this as the only species in the genusOpthamolebiaswith the other five species which other authorities classify as being within that genus placed inSimpsonichthys.[2][3]The genusOphthalmolebiaswas initially considered asubgenusofSimpsonichthys,but has been elevated to full genus status.[4]
