The song had been already proposed byGianni Nazzaroto the Sanremo Festival organizers in 1987, but had been rejected in the preliminary song selection.[1]

"Perdere l'amore" was covered by several artists, includingLara Fabian,André Hazes,Mino Reitano,Pietro Ballo,Thiago Arancam.[3]In 2020 Ranieri recorded a new version of the song in duet withTiziano Ferro,which was presented out of competition at theSanremo Music Festival 2020.[4][5]
