Early life and education
editWinchester was born inMontana.He graduated fromBelgrade High Schoolin 1999. He then lived and worked inLondon,England(his mother's home country),[2]and attended theLondon Academy of Music and Dramatic Art(LAMDA).[3]
Career
editWinchester's acting career started with a small role in the 1998 filmThe Patriot,which was filmed in and around the towns ofBozemanandEnnis, Montana.After graduating from high school, he began to take roles in plays, including that of Edmund inKing LearoppositeIan McKellen,in the 2007Royal Shakespeare Companyproduction.
In 2003, he starred in the independent filmThe Telephone,which was filmed inBristoland produced by Robert Finlay.[4]In 2008, he was cast asRobinson Crusoein theNBCaction TV seriesCrusoe.[5][6]In 2009, he was cast inManeater,a two-partLifetimeminiseries starringSarah Chalke.
Winchester has also appeared in the filmsSolomon Kane(2009) (as a former member of the title character's crew, turned freedom-fighter) andIn My Sleep(2010) (as the lead),[1]and theSyfyTV mini-seriesAlice.
From 2010, he has played the role of Frank Stanton,parallel universefiance ofOlivia Dunham,in theFoxTV seriesFringe.From 2011, he has appeared as Leontes in theStarzseriesCamelot. Other credits include the second, third, fourth and fifth seasons ofStrike Backalong with a guest appearance in season six. The series follows the adventures of two Section 20 agents, Sgt. Michael Stonebridge (Winchester) and American formerDelta Forceofficer Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton). He also starred withWesley SnipesandCharity Wakefieldin theNBCdramaThe Playerin 2015. He also starred inChicago Justiceas lead prosecutorPeter Stone.This character then became the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) onLaw & Order: Special Victims Unitduring season 19 after the previous ADARafael Barba(Raúl Esparza) resigned. In March 2019, Winchester announced that he would be leavingSVUahead of its twenty-first season, makingseason twentyhis last on the show.[7]
Personal life
editWinchester married Megan Coughlin in 2008. The two met in their hometown ofBelgrade, Montanaand were described as being "high-school sweethearts"byE! News.[8]They have two daughters who were born in 2015 and 2019.[9][10]
