According to theUnited States Census Bureau,Plain Township has a total area of 28.5 square miles (73.81 km2), of which 28.3 square miles (73.29 km2) is land and 0.2 square mile (0.5 km2) is water.
Name and history
editWhen Plain Township was originally formed as acivil township,it was much larger. Lake Township became its own stand alone township in 1816 after its original formation as asurvey townshipwithin Plain Township and after 1806 withinGreen Township.[4]Statewide, other Plain Townships are located inFranklin,Wayne,andWoodcounties.
Government
editThe township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[5]who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
Education
editA large portion of the township lies in thePlain Local School District,whose high school isGlenOak High School.The remainder of the township (primarily north of the city of North Canton) is served by theNorth Canton City Schools.
