Poh Li San(Chinese:Phó lệ san;pinyin:Fù Lìshān;born 19 November 1975)[1][2]is a Singaporean politician and businesswoman. A member of the governingPeople's Action Party(PAP), she has been theMember of Parliament(MP) representing theSembawang Westdivision ofSembawang GRCsince 2020.[3][4]

A recipient of theSingapore Armed Forces Merit Scholarship (Women),[5]Poh was a helicopter pilot in theRepublic of Singapore Air Force(RSAF) and the first femaleaide-de-camptoPresidentS. R. Nathan.[6]After leaving the RSAF in 2010, she joined theChangi Airport Groupand rose to the position of Vice President.[5]

editPoh attendedDunman High SchoolandTemasek Junior College[7]before graduating from theUniversity of Illinois Urbana–Champaignin 1998 with aBachelor of Sciencewith highest honours degree in engineering and aBachelor of Artswithsumma cum laudeand highest distinction degree ineconomics.[8]She was awarded the Bronze Tablet for graduating top 3% in her cohort.[9]
Career
editMilitary career
editPoh was awarded the Singapore Armed Forces Merit Scholarship (Women) in 1994[5]and began her military career with theRepublic of Singapore Air Force(RSAF) as a helicopter pilot after completing her education.[10]She flew theSuper Pumahelicopter in 125 Squadron, Sembawang Airbase. Poh was aSearch and Rescuepilot and was part of theSAFHumanitarian and Relief mission toAcehfollowing theBo xing Day Tsunami.[11]
In 2003, Poh assumed the role of Assistant Director of the Future Systems Technology Directorate under theMinistry of Defence(MINDEF) and led the development of the latest technologies and formulated long term force development strategies and new war-fighting concepts for theSAF.[12][13]In 2005, Poh was made Flight Commander of 125 Squadron, Sembawang Airbase.[8][12]
In July 2006, Poh was appointed to be the first femaleaide-de-campto thenPresidentS. R. Nathan.[6]She was responsible for planning and organising state-level visits, meetings, ceremonies, and events.[5]
In May 2010, Poh left theRSAFand attained the rankMajor[12]and joinedChangi Airport Group.
Post-military career
editPoh started her career inChangi Airport Groupas Head, Budget Terminal in May 2010. She was in charge of the operations of theChangi Airport Budget Terminal.[8]From 2012 to 2017, Poh led the planning and development of the new Terminal 4 where many new innovations and technologies were implemented to improve passenger experience and productivity. She is currently the Vice-President of the Terminal 5 planning and is responsible for the planning of specialised airport engineering systems for the new terminal.[8][11][14]

Poh joined the governingPeople's Action Party(PAP) as an activist in 2018. She is an activegrassrootsleader inSembawang GRC,where she helpedMember of Parliament(MP) andMinister for EducationOng Ye Kungin hisMeet-the-People Sessionsevery Monday in his Gambas Ward.[4]She is currently the Deputy Chairman of thePAPSembawang Branch ofSembawang GRCand sits on the Citizen's Consultative Committee of the ward as Vice-Chairman,[15]underMPandCo-ordinating Minister for InfrastructureandMinister for TransportKhaw Boon Wan.She was then appointed Deputy Chairperson of Sustainability and Environment Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) in the14th Parliament of Singapore.
Poh is appointed as Vice-Chairperson of Sembawang Town Council (SBTC) since 2020.
Personal life
editPoh's father was a school teacher and her mother was an accounts clerk.[citation needed]She was born as aSingaporeanofHokkiendescent and aChristianby faith.[citation needed]
