Radek Bejbl(born 29 August 1972) is a Czech former professionalfootballerwho played as adefensive midfielder.He notably played four seasons withAtlético Madridand played in theUEFA Euro 1996final with theCzech Republic national team.

Club career
editEarly career
editBejbl started his careers with Lokomotiva Nymburk and Mladá Boleslav.[1]He made his league debut forSlavia Pragueon 8 October 1990 in the 3–1Czechoslovak First Leaguewin againstVítkovice,appearing as a substitute forMilan Šimůnek.[2]Bejbl stayed with Slavia for six years, culminating in winning theCzech First Leaguein 1996.[3]
Spanish and French leagues
editIn summer 1996, Bejbl moved to Spain and signed withAtlético Madrid.[4]He appeared in 33 matches inhis first seasoninLa Ligaand eventually helped theColchonerosto consecutiveCopa del Reyfinals (both lost). Bejbl missed the 2000 Copa del Rey final after the Czech national team refused to release him from international duty.[5]He left the club in 2000, after itsuffered relegation.[6][7]
Subsequently, Bejbl signed withRC Lensin the FrenchLigue 1,staying at the club for two seasons.[3]During his time at Lens he played in defence as well as his usual position in midfield.[8]
Later career
editIn 2002 Bejbl returned to former team Slavia for three additional campaigns.[3]
Bejbl spent two years in Austria withSK Rapid Wien,playing 27Bundesligagames inhis second yearto help to a fourth-place finish andqualificationto theUEFA Intertoto Cup.Aged 35, he returned to his country signing a one-year contract forone final seasonwithSlovan Liberec.[9]He finished his professional career in 2008 and went on to become a youth coach for Prague sideViktoria Žižkov.[10][11]
International career
editBejbl played two matches forCzechoslovakiabefore the nation split. He played 56 matches and scored three goals forCzech Republic,participating atUEFA Euro 1996andEuro 2000.In the former competition, he started in all the games as the nation reachedthe final,netting in a 2–1 group stage win againstItaly.[12]
