Ranvir Singh(born 11 August 1977)[2]is a British journalist and television presenter. She is a newsreader and presenter forGood Morning Britain,presenter ofRiddiculousand a relief presenter ofLorraine(alongsideChristine Lampard).

Early life

Singh was born in 1977 inPreston, Lancashire,into aSikhfamily. Her parents emigrated fromPunjabinIndiain the 1960s. She has two older sisters. Her father died when she was nine years old from aheart attackat the age of 42.[3]Educated atKirkham Grammar School,an independent school inKirkham, Lancashire,she graduated from theUniversity of Lancasterwith a degree inEnglishand Philosophy. She then gained a postgraduate qualification in journalism at the School ofJournalism, Media and Communication, University of Central Lancashirein Preston.[4]

Career

Singh joinedBBC Radio Lancashirein 2002, initially on work experience before being given a six-month contract. She then moved toBBC GMR,covering the2002 Commonwealth Gamesin Manchester.[5]Singh joined theBBC North Westregional news programmeNorth West Tonightin 2005 as a journalist and bulletin presenter.[5][6]Her first national presenting role came onGood Friday,2006 when she co-presentedManchester Passion,a live BBC Three play that retold the last hours ofJesus Christ.[6]

On 10 September 2007, Singh joined long-serving presenterGordon Burnsas the main co-presenter onBBC North West Tonight.FormerBBC South Todaysports editorRoger Johnsonbecame Singh's co-presenter in October 2011 following Burns' departure.[6]While working onNorth West Tonight,Singh was also a regular presenter for late night and weekend breakfast shows onBBC Radio 5 Live.[citation needed]Singh went on maternity leave fromNorth West Tonighton 18 May 2012. It was later announced that she would not be returning to the BBC but would be joining theITV BreakfastprogrammeDaybreak.[7]She made her first appearance onDaybreakon 3 September 2012.[8]

In 2012, Singh occasionally reviewed the newspapers onThis Morning.In May 2014, Singh joinedGood Morning Britainas a features correspondent and news presenter withSusanna Reid,Sean Fletcher,Ben ShephardandCharlotte Hawkins.Since May 2014, Singh has been a relief newscaster on variousITV Newsbulletins. On 25 September 2014, Singh joined the factualITVprogrammeTonightas a reporter. Since March 2015, she has guest presented numerousExposurespecials. From 2015 until 2016, Ranvir presented two primetime series forITVcalledReal Stories with Ranvir Singh.[9]

In 2016 and 2017, Singh co-presentedThe Martin Lewis Money ShowalongsideMartin Lewis,but was later replaced byAngellica Bell.[citation needed]In January 2017, it was announced that Ranvir had been promoted toGood Morning Britain's Political Editor.[10]Since the summer of 2017, Singh presentedEat, Shop, SaveforITV.In 2017, Singh was presentingGood Morning Britainthe day of the2017 Westminster attackand garnered much praise for her ability to respond and react quickly to the developing story. TheGood Morning BritainTeam then went on to win a prestigiousGolden Nymph Awardin the ‘Live Breaking News’ category at the 59thMonte-Carlo Television Festivalin 2019, beatingCNNandAl Jazeera.[citation needed]

Singh's highlights atGood Morning Britainalso include travelling around the world on board theRAF Voyagerwith the Prime Minister, with visits including China, Canada and inside theWhite HousewithPresident Trump,and live reporting from the ground as theGrenfell Tower fireunfolded.[11]Since 2020, Singh has been a guest presenter onLoose Women.On 2 September 2020, it was announced that Singh would be taking part in theeighteenth seriesofStrictly Come Dancing.She was partnered withGiovanni Pernice.They reached the Semi-Final so were fifth place overall behind the four finalistsJamie Laing,HRVY,Maisie Smithand championBill Bailey.

From 6 September 2020, Singh co-presented ten episodes of ITV’sAll Around Britain,a new weekly topical magazine series, with fellowGood Morning BritainpresenterAlex Beresford.[12][13]She was replaced withLorraineentertainment presenter, Ria Hebden, while participating in the 18th series ofStrictly Come Dancing.[citation needed]On 16 December 2020, it was announced that Singh would be presentingLorraineon the 21st, 22nd, and 23 December while main presenter,Lorraine Kelly,takes a Christmas Break.[14]In 2021, Singh continued to guest present onLorraine,and she continues to regularly present in Kelly's absence.

  • In November 2010, Singh was awarded “Best On Screen Talent” at theRoyal Television Society'sNorth West Awards.[15]
  • On 13 August 2014, she received the Alumni Award fromLancaster University.[16]
  • In October 2015, she won Media Personality of the Year at the Asian Media Awards.[17]

Personal life

In 2012, Singh married Ranjeet Singh Dehal, with whom she has a son.[24]She announced her and her husband's separation in 2019.[25]Singh and her son live in theChilterns.[26]

In 2021, Singh announced that she was dating Louis Church, whom she met onStrictly Come Dancingin 2020 when he was working on the show's production team.[27][28][29]
