Ronaldo del Carmen(born December 31, 1959) is a Filipino writer, director, storyboard artist, illustrator, and voice actor. He co-directed and co-wrote the story for thePixarfilmInside Out(2015), for which he was nominated for anAcademy Award for Best Original Screenplay,the first Filipino to do so.

Early life and education
editDel Carmen was born in the city ofCavitein the Philippines.[1]After high school, he worked as a painter on the set ofFrancis Ford Coppola's 1979 filmApocalypse Now,which was filming in the Philippines.[2]He graduated from theUniversity of Santo Tomaswith a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising.[2]

editAfter college, Del Carmen worked as anart directorfor print and television advertising campaigns before moving to the United States in 1989 to pursue a career in film.[2]He worked forWarner Brosas a storyboard artist onBatman: The Animated Series,and as a story supervisor forDreamWorksonThe Prince of Egypt(1998),The Road to El Dorado(2000),Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron(2002) andSinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas(2003).[3]He joinedPixar Animation Studiosin 2000, working as story supervisor onFinding Nemo(2003), production designer on theAcademy Award-nominated short filmOne Man Band(2005), storyboard artist onRatatouille(2007) andWALL-E(2008), and story supervisor onUp(2009).[3][4]He made his directorial debut with the animated short filmDug's Special Mission(2009), which accompaniedUpon itsDVDandBlu-rayrelease.[4]He co-directed the animated filmInside OutwithPete Docter.[5][6]The film premiered at the68th Cannes Film Festivalon May 18, 2015.[7]
In April 2021, it was revealed that Del Carmen had left Pixar and is set to write and direct an animated feature film based on Philippine folklore atNetflix,although it is still in early development.[8]

editDel Carmen has illustrated several comic books, includingBatman Adventures: Holiday Special,which won anEisner AwardforBest Single Issuein 1995, and the children's bookMy Name Is Dug,written by Kiki Thorpe.[3]He has also written several comic books, including thePaper Biscuitseries andAnd There You Are.[9]
Personal life
editDel Carmen is married and has two children.[1]His brothers,Louieand Rick, also work in animation.[10]After moving in the United States, he partially became aU.S. citizenin prior of working with animation studios for over two decades.[11]
