On 28 February 2022, in accordance with a recommendation by theInternational Olympic Committee(IOC),FIFAandUEFAsuspended the participation of Russia, including in theQatar 2022 World Cup.TheRussian Football Unionunsuccessfully appealed the FIFA and UEFA bans to theCourt of Arbitration for Sport,which upheld the bans.
