Sam Hamm(born November 19, 1955) is an Americanscreenwriterand comic book writer.[1]Hamm is known for writing the initial drafts of the screenplay for the 1989Batmanmoviebefore those duties were handed over toWarren Skaaren.[2]He also received a story credit forBatman Returns(though the final version of the movie differs significantly from his ideas).[3]

DC Comics invited Hamm to write forDetective Comics.[4]The result wasBatman: Blind Justice,which introduced Bruce Wayne's mentor, Henri Ducard. Hamm's other screen credits includeNever Cry WolfandMonkeybone.

In 2021, Hamm returned to the1989 Batman film universewith the limited DC Comics seriesBatman '89,a direct continuation of both the 1989 film andBatman Returns.[5]The creative team followed it up withBatman '89: Echoes.
