Sanremo Music Festival 1972

TheSanremo Music Festival 1972(Italian:Festival di Sanremo 1972), officially the22nd Italian Song Festival(22º Festival della canzone italiana), was the 22nd annualSanremo Music Festival,held at theSanremo CasinoinSanremobetween 24 and 26 February 1972. It was broadcast byProgramma Nazionale[1]and was the last edition to be broadcast inblack and white.

The show was presented byMike Bongiorno,assisted by actorsSylva KoscinaandPaolo Villaggio.Vittorio Salvetti served as artistic director.[1]From this edition it was abolished the competition rule, established in 1959, which prescribed a double performance by two different artists or groups for every song.[1]

The winner of the festival wasNicola Di Bariwith the song "I giorni dell'arcobaleno",with which he went on to representItalyat theEurovision Song Contest 1972.[1]
