Porter grew up inWinter Park, Florida,where he attendedLake Howell High School.He was awide receiveron thefootballteam at Lake Howell and graduated in 1997.[2]While a student at theUniversity of Central Florida,he sangvocal percussionin ana cappellavocal group, 4: 2: Five (currently known asVoicePlay).[3][4][5]Porter also worked as ababy-sitterand "didn't have time to party."[6]

Prior to joining the cast ofFriday Night Lights,Porter played Matthew in the original cast of theOff-BroadwayhitAltar Boyzin 2004. In 2006, he temporarily took over the role ofCasey Hughesin the soap operaAs the World Turns,a role originally performed byZach Roerig.Porter also played the role of Colin Thompson, the more visible part of the duo that fronts the fictional band PoP!, in the filmMusic and Lyrics(2007).

Porter also played the character Rex in the filmSpeed Racer(2008), which was directed and written bythe Wachowskis.He played Bobby in theremakeofProm Nightand Ben Wheatly inBandslam,released in August 2009.[7]That same year, he was paired withThe Sisterhood of the Traveling PantsstarAlexis Bledelin the romantic comedy filmThe Good Guy,which premiered at theTribeca Film Festival.[8]

Porter is a fan of comic books and has auditioned for several comic book hero roles.[9]He is a fan ofHeroClix,[10]filming unbo xing videos of upcoming sets for the WizKids Facebook page.[citation needed]Porter performed and sang the song "Someone to Fall Back On" inBandslam,and his song "Pretend" was included in thesoundtrack.He was part of his high school's choral department and was a founding member of the groups 4:2:Five and Mosaic. Porter portrayed Jason Street on the TV ShowFriday Night Lights.

In 2010, Porter joined the cast ofCBS's legal dramaThe Good Wifeas Blake Calamar, an investigator for Lockhart & Gardner, a law firm. His character appeared in 14 episodes.[11]Also in 2010, he starred in the pilot of the television seriesNomads,which was developed forThe CW,but it was not picked up by the network.[12]BuddyTVranked him #10 on its "TV's 100 Sexiest Men of 2010" list[13]and #34 in 2011.[14]

Porter played a lawyer in the medical dramedy seriesHart of DixiealongsideRachel Bilson.The series debuted on The CW in September 2011.[citation needed]

In 2013, he debuted in the second season of the video game series ofThe Walking DeadbyTelltale Gamesas Luke, one of the main characters in the series. Porter also voiced another main character, Lukas, inMinecraft Story ModebyTelltale GamesandMojang.In 2017, Porter portrayed Colton "Colt" Cruise in theEA SportsgameMadden NFL 18'sLongshotmode.[15]In 2022, he also provided the voice forHeimdall,one of the main antagonists inSanta Monica studio'sGod of War: Ragnrarok.

In 2024, Porter competed inseason elevenofThe Masked Singeras "Gumball". He finished in second place whereVanessa Hudgensas "Goldfish" won the season. Both of them mentioned their work inBandslam.[16]

Personal life

In April 2013, Porter married casting director Kelsey Mayfield, a formerUniversity of Texascheerleader whom he met on the set ofFriday Night Lights.[17][18]One of his groomsmen was screenwriter and directorJamie Linden,a schoolmate at Lake Howell. In May 2015, Mayfield gave birth to their son, McCoy Lee. Their daughter, Clover Ash was born in August 2017.[19][20]

Porter is also known for playing and promotingHeroClix,a tabletop miniatures game featuringMarvelandDC Comicscharacters. He films preview videos of upcoming product releases and hosts "HeroClix for Huntington's," an annual charity tournament supporting theHuntington's Disease Society of America.Porter was also created as a 'bystander' token and two separate figures playable in theHeroClixgame.[21]
