The first public word of Sound City was when Paul McCartney performed with the surviving members of Nirvana: Grohl, Novoselic andSmearlive at the12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Reliefin New York. Together they premiered the collaborative song "Cut Me Some Slack".[6]Grohl then revealed his plans for theSound Cityfilm and soundtrack. McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana performed the song a second time the following week onSaturday Night Live.[7][8]

Grohl then formed the Sound City Players with many of the musicians who appeared in his filmSound Cityabout the closing of, (but later re-opened)Sound City StudiosinVan Nuys,California. Their debut was at theSundance Film Festival'sPark City Liveon January 18, 2013.[3][4]

Grohl and seven other band members, including Nicks on lead vocals, appeared onLate Night with David Lettermanon February 14, 2013.[9]The Sound City Players appeared onJimmy Kimmel Liveon March 5, 2013 and onEllenon March 7, 2013.[10]Grohl promised that their final show was the concert at theSXSWmusic festival on March 14, 2013.[1][2]
