History
editEarly years (as T-Team)
editThe club was founded on 14 July 2006 as T-Team. The club was formed after the Football Association of Kuala Terengganu District decided to send a football team to compete in theMalaysian Leagueas T-Team. They competed in the2008 Malaysia FAM Leagueand achieved promotion to theMalaysia Premier Leaguefor the2009 season.[1]The club was then promoted toMalaysia Super Leagueafter just one season in the second division and competed in2010 Malaysia Super League. The club was further rebranded as T-Team Titans to gather local support.
Merging with Terengganu FA to become Terengganu FC
editOn 21 November 2017, T-Team management announced the club had been absorbed intoTerengganu F.C.,and the team's status was changed to areserve teamof the newly restructured first team of Terengganu. As part of the change, T-Team changed its name to Terengganu II and were automatically relegated to the Premier League, despite finishing the season outside of the Super League relegation zone in the2017 season.[2]
Under new head coach, Mustafa Kamal, Terengganu II performed badly in the league and finished 11th, in the automatic relegation toMalaysia FAM Leaguezone. As a result of the poor performance, Mustafa Kamal resigned as head coach, and the head coach role were temporarily held byTengku Hazman, his assistant, for the inauguralMalaysia Challenge Cup.Tengku Hazman succeeded in leading his charges to win thetournament, beatingUKM F.C.4–2 on aggregate in the final.
In December 2018, Terengganu II was granted a reprieve by the Malaysia Football League and retained their place in the Premier League after2018 Malaysia FAM CupchampionsTerengganu City F.C.were denied promotion due to unpaid player and staff wages issues.[3]
