editWhenHaryanabecame a separate state in 1966, Uday Bhanu was declared as its state poet of Haryana.[5]He was awarded Sur Puruskar in 2006[6]and Haryana Sahitya Rattan Samman in 2009[7]by Haryana Sahitya Akademi. Uday Bhanu Hans Awards are given every year in his honour.[6]
Personal life
editUday Bhanu was born on 2 August 1926 atDaira Din PanahinMuzaffargarhdistrict ofPakistan.[8]His family shifted toHisarafterpartition of Indiain 1947 when he was 22 years old.[8]He completed hisMaster of ArtsinHindilanguage and joined as a teacher.[8]Yashpal Sharmawas one of his students.[9]He retired as principal of Government College, Hisar[8]and lived in Hisar.[2]He was also the secretary of Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi[10]and a member of advisory committee of Haryana Sahitya Akademi.[citation needed]
