Welcome

On Wikipedia, I have donea lot.I say this not as a brag, but rather as inspiration (hopefully). I've expanded WikiProjects, developed templates and tools, copy-edited thousands of articles, wrotefeatured articles, submittedDYKs,wrote guides, gave several conference talks atWikimania,... you name it, I've probably done it. What's the takeaway from this? I'm just some guy that started editing becausesomething was wrong on the internet. If you come here, with your 10th, 1,000th, or 10,000th edit and go "Holy shit! This guy has nearly 425,000 edits!", remember thatI was once youand that I'mstilljust some guy!

In my qualified experience assome guy, just write articles. Expand them. Fix typos. Add references. Copy-edit a paragraph. That'swhat we're here forafter all. You'll make mistakes, butthat's okay.Over time, you'lllearn the ropes, the secret handshakes, and all the dos and don'ts of editing. If you run into an issue, ask for help at either thehelp deskor at a relevantWikiProject. In fact, gojoin a Wikiprojectnow if you haven't done so already. It's one of the best things you can do on Wikipedia to not feel lost and find other people that are interested in the same things you are. If you have an idea, bounce it off other people atThe Village Pump. You'll haveplentyof "Why didn't I think of that?" or "You mean there was an easier way to do this all this time?" moments. Hell, I've been here 15+ years and Istillhave them. But more importantly, if youjust edit, you'll find whatyoulike to do on Wikipedia, and your experience will be a pleasant one.

As of writing, my 425,000 edits amounts to roughly 0.036% of all edits ever made on Wikipedia. Why do I bring this up? Because while 425,000 edits is a huge number, 0.036% is not. This means that 99.964% of Wikipedia was written by other people. Other peoplelike you.So don't for a moment think you have nothing to contribute, because togetherwe help the Internet not suck.

If you have any questions about me or my work, leave me a message on mytalk pageand I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Sign my guestbook!

Quotes

Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there is one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfold fear.
– Thomas Jefferson –

The Argument from Intimidation is a confession of intellectual impotence.
– Ayn Rand –

It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument.
– William G. McAdoo –

The problem with quotes on the Internet is that they are often not true.
– Abraham Lincoln –

Beer Thanks for approvingmy BRFAa mere 11 minutes after I filed it, and for the trust you put in me ( "I would have liked to see a greater variety of categories, but you know what you're doing. Do more supervised testing if you feel the need for it" ). It turns out I did end up making a couple of wrong edits (36) due to a few edge cases with different template formatting, but otherwise the ~9k edits went smoothly. Again, thank you. DannyS712
