Wikipedia and copyright
editHello Countercheck! Your additions toEel River (California)have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have addedcopyrightedcontent without evidence that the source material is in thepublic domainor has been released by its owner or legal agent under asuitably free and compatiblecopyright license. (To request such a release, seeWikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to preventcopyrightandplagiarismissues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation:You may only copy or translate asmallportion of a source. Anydirect quotationsmust be enclosed in doublequotation marks( ") and properly cited using aninline citation.More information is available on thenon-free content page.To learn how to cite a source, seeHelp:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing:Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all informationin your own words.Following the source's wording too closely can lead tocopyright issuesand is not permitted; seeWikipedia:Close paraphrasing.Even when paraphrasing, you must stillcite your sourcesas appropriate.
- Image use guidelines:In most scenarios, onlyfreely licensedorpublic domainimages may be used and these should be uploaded to oursister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of ournon-free content criteria;Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guidemay help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation:Ifyouhold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, youmaybe able to license the text for publication here. Please seeWikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia:Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance withWikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, seeHelp:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in beingblockedfrom editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. You can't dodge the copyright problem by putting text in quotation marks. You must write what you can in your own words.Thank you.—Compassionate727(T·C)11:45, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- OK. But now, with your edits, the article has an error. The 14 dogs died in the Big Lagoon, South Fork of the Eel River, and the Van Duzen River NOT ONLY in the South Fork of the Eel River. This is documented int the reference you provided.
- Also, the article now implies that one should not go in the river year round which isn't the case, just during warm weather and low water flows. This is documented in the reference you provided. The way it now reads, it could imply that the Kinetic Sculpture Race cannot safely cross the Eel River earlier in the year (at Fernbridge which is the South Fork of the Eel River).
- Would you like to take a go at correcting these two items or might you prefer I make a go at it?Countercheck(talk)18:28, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

- Thanks, much appreciatedCountercheck(talk)19:17, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate the work onBronze Age.However, I took a look myself, and ended up spending a lot of time with further glaring issues. Almost immediately, it was pretty clear to me that the article did not meetWP:B?and would not without much of the uncited content being addressed, among other issues. That is to say, make sure you're only promoting articles to B Class that clearly meet the criteria.Remsense‥Luận23:37, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Duplicate links are not always bad
editYou have been systematically removing duplicate links. Please reconsider this. In a long article, it may be difficult for the reader to find the first link of a word or phrase. So linking it again is a service in such cases.JRSpriggs(talk)14:46, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you're thinking that I keep only the first link and delete the rest, that isn't what I'm usually doing. I keep the first one, delete some after that and almost always keep at least the second one (and sometimes the third and/or fourth one).Countercheck(talk)00:01, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
