Bop [t|T]ill you Drop
editI didn't seen yourCollinsmaterial on that until afterthe RMclosed. I tend to agree with you that "you can't go out until you change" is effectively the same construction – but only to the "understood" and alleged long form of something like "you should bop until you['ve] drop[ped]". That isn't what we have; we have just "bop till you drop" which is semantically more akin to "dance on my table" or "we lived there till recently" or whatever. Ultimately, I think Dicklyon's post at the end of the RM is the best approach for us to take; in any edge case, don't try to argue it out in terms only a philologist would understand, but do what is most consistent with the rest of the encyclopedia. The fact of the matter (which we know well from "as" / "like" research on previous song-title RMs) is that linguists and quasi-linguistic works like dictioanries have actually been fighting about this matter for over a century, and have a frequent habit of forking their "parts of speech" listing and examples from each other, straight into direct conflict, even between Oxford and Cambridge which are in the same "ENGVAR". In short, the fact that one dictionary gives an example of prepositional or subordinating usage doesn't really mean that the useis(in aWP:TRUTHsense) subordinating or prepositional, only that one particular dictionary's editors are in the camp that thinks it is. — SMcCandlish☏¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 08:26, 27 October 2017 (UTC)
