editVRL Groupwas founded byVijay Sankeshwarin 1976 at Gadag, Karnataka, India. Hisfamilyhadapublication house,which later became a part of theVRL Group.[citation needed]

editAsubsidiaryofVRL Group,VRL GeneralCargostarted its business service with transportation between Hubballi and Gadag, and later spread across toBengaluruandBelagavi.It has extended into courier services and express cargo, which are now operative in 23 states, handling over 216millionpieces of cargo/year,[10]being one of the largest networks in thecountry.Its courier services are in operation forparcelsrangingfrom small to largesize.[citation needed]

editVRL'spublictour businessis operated by its divisionVijayanand Travels.With more than 80 branches and operated by 1000+agents,it is the largest in tour business services in Karnataka andMaharashtra.It owns 1,550buses(incl. 742Volvo busesof9400 XLand9400PXmulti-axle models),[11]coveringsix states,moving across 350routesin thecountry.[citation needed]
Aviation logistics
editVRL Logistics Ltd.in 2008, started working in IndianAirCharteringIndustry, operating under the IndianAir Operatorpermit (for passenger charter). In the first phase of its business, it owned aBeechcraft Premier I,anaircraft,manufactured byHawker Beechcraft Inc,United States, while in 2013 it purchased another.
