Victor Dennis Mercredi(born March 31, 1953) is aCanadianformer professionalice hockeyplayer ofMétisheritage.[1]Mercredi played in theNational Hockey League(NHL) andWorld Hockey Association(WHA) as aleft winger.[2]

Hockey career and accomplishments
editVic Mercredi's hockey career spanned a decade, from 1969 to 1980. He played for thePenticton Broncosin theBritish Columbia Junior Hockey Leaguefrom 1969–71 and theNew Westminster Bruinsin theWestern Canadian Hockey Leaguefrom 1971-73.[3]Mercredi was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the1973 NHL Amateur Draftby theAtlanta Flames,and 35th overall in the1973 WHA Amateur Draftby theHouston Aeros.He played 2 games for Atlanta in the1974–75 season,and three games for theCalgary Cowboysduring the1975-76 WHA season.He also played for a time inStockholm,Sweden,on the now defunctHammarby IF Hockeyteam. Mercredi was the 1970-71 BCJHL MVP and voted on the BCJHL all-star first team.[4]He was also inducted into the NWT Sport Hall of Fame in 2013 for being the first hockey player born in theNorthwest Territoriesto play in theNational Hockey League.[5]
Political involvement
editMercredi ran for public office to theLegislative Assembly of the Northwest Territoriesin the2011 Northwest Territories general electionin the electoral district ofKam Lake.He finished third out of four candidates, while incumbentDave Ramsaywas re-elected.
