William Germanois an American editor and college professor. He was editor-in-chief ofColumbia University Press,then as vice-president and publishing director atRoutledge,before becoming professor and dean of the faculty of humanities atCooper Union.[1]

Biography
editGermano was born and raised inYonkers, New York.He received his B.A. fromColumbia Universityand a Ph.D. fromIndiana University Bloomington.[2][3]
In 1982, Germano became the editorial director ofColumbia University Press,publishing works byPaul Bové,Gayatri Spivak,as well asPaul de Man's last book,The Rhetoric of Romanticism.
After joiningRoutledge,he oversaw its publications in the field of science studies and cultural studies, promoting authors such asJudith Butler,Cornel West,bell hooks,Marjorie Garber,andAndrew Ross,and was considered "one of the most influential figures in literary criticism and theory over the past two decades."[1]
In 2005, he left Routledge after it underwent corporate restructuring by ownerTaylor & Francis.He joinedCooper Unionand was dean of the faculty of humanities and social sciences from 2006 to 2017, and concurrently teaches English literature, lecturing onShakespeare.[4]
Germano has written a guidebook on theSyllabus,[5]titledSyllabus: The Remarkable, Unremarkable Document That Changes Everything,and guidebooks on dissertation writing, includingGetting It Published: A Guide for Scholars and Anyone Else Serious about Serious BooksandFrom Dissertation to Book,both published by theUniversity of Chicago Press.[6][7][8]
