China Retail Sentiment Index at 49.6% in July, Down 1.3 Points Month-on-Month
TMTPOST-- The China Retail Prosperity Index (CRPI), a leading indicator that shows retailers' expectations for the sector, stands at 49.6% in July, marking a slight decrease of 1.3 percentage points from the previous month, according to the China General Chamber of Commerce. The data indicates a clear divergence in the growth trends of goods and services retail. While the indices for goods retail and e-commerce operations have declined, the e-commerce operations index remains within the expansion range. The leasing operations index rose slightly by 0.7 percentage points compared to last month. Analysts suggest that the start of the summer vacation period in July has led to increased spending on family dining and travel, pushing goods retail into its traditional off-season. This aligns with the decreased expectations for goods retail by goods and e-commerce businesses for the month. Meanwhile, the desire to visit malls for cooling and leisure has grown with the summer heat, keeping the leasing operations index, which focuses on service consumption, in the mid-to-high sentiment range.
