Detailed Walkthrough

All the necessary components

Speak withMadesiand ask him about hisjewelry.You will learn that he is running low on supplies due to heavybanditpresence on the roads and needs help gathering some components. He requires twoflawless sapphires,onemammoth tusk,and one piece ofgold ore.

Flawless sapphires, like allgems,can be randomly found ormined.One guaranteed sample can be stolen from the shelves in the Inner Sanctum of theTemple of Dibellain Markarth.

Mammoth tusks can be looted from slainmammoths,as well as bought fromhuntersand certain merchants. Three guaranteed samples can be found in theCollege of Winterhold'sArcanaeum;eight guaranteed samples can be found inHalted Stream Camp.The closest one is inBlack-Briar Meadery,where it can be stolen from the shelves of a cupboard inIndaryn's bedroom.

Gold ore can be found randomly in containers or in buildings, but an easy place to find some gold veins is inKolskeggr Mine.There's alsoLost Prospect Mine;while the latter is closer, it doesn't have as many veins as Kolskeggr Mine. Alternately, one can just usethe Transmute spellto turn one Iron Ore into one Gold Ore.

You can return the items to Madesi as you find them, or all at once. He will give you 100 gold for each item returned (i.e., 200 for the two sapphires). Once you've returned them all, ask Madesi if he needs anything else and he will thank you with a leveled necklace.

Notes

• Completing this quest counts towards your eligibility for becomingThane of the Rift.
• Try not to purchase the items for this quest, as the cost of buying the items can outweigh the reward for returning them.
• Halted Stream Campis the location of abounty quest,possible location of aDungeon Delvingquest fromAmren,and possible location of theAmulet of the Moonquest, making it easy to complete multiple quests at once if you choose to find your mammoth tusk there.

Bugs

• There are no quest markers for delivering the items back to Madesi.
  • TheUnofficial Skyrim Patch,version 1.1, fixes this bug.

• Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,<Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• On the PC, it is possible to use theconsoleto advance through the quest by enteringsetstage FreeformRiften18 stage,wherestageis the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest usingresetquest FreeformRiften18.
