Lore:Conjuration
Conjurationmagic is the art of summoning creatures or items fromanother plane. It is one of the six colleges ofMagic, but is not considered to be one of the "great schools" by theMages Guild.[1]and only became mainstream afterWarp in the West.Despite this, it has been practiced for centuries bywitch covensand wizards throughout Tamriel. ClanDirenni's sorcerers were some of the first to formalize the rituals, chants, and incantations used to open a connection with the plane ofOblivion, many of which are still standard centuries later.[2]
This school can be used to summon a wide range ofdaedric creatures, weaponsand armor. Spells used to dominate creatures and humanoids were once considered to be part of this school, but they are now part of the college ofIllusion.A further type of spell grants power over theundead, until those were reassigned to the school ofRestoration.
- Summoned creatures fall into three groups. There are spells that call a daedra, from weak creatures such asscampsto more powerful ones likedremora.Others summon undead servants such asskeletonsorwraiths.Lastly, some spells summon natural creatures - especiallybears.
- Summoned weapons and armor are daedric in nature, although often not as strong as normal daedric items.
- Turn Undead effects cause undead creatures to become afraid of the caster, from whom they will run as long as the effect lasts.
- Somenecromanticrituals, particularly the reanimation of corpses, overlap with this school.
In3E 431,the Council of Mages decided that Conjuration magic inCyrodiilwas to become the responsibility of the guildhall in the town ofChorrol.[1]
Some conjuration practices utilize parts of the creature, such as Daedra skin for summoning Daedra.Scrollsof summoning are always based on the Law of Similarity.Milyn Faramdevised techniques that allow to conjure Daedra with scrolls that only have an image of the Daedra. They were noted to yield almost as good results as the techniques that required parts of a Daedra for conjuration. His research was based on Dwemer machinery.[3]
Summoning a creature in its natural habitat is more straightforward because there are more options available. Additionally, when the creature doesn't have to cover long distances, the summoning process consumes less energy.[4]
Conjuration practices[edit]
Bound Items, predominantlybound armors, andbound weapons, also known asbound armaments, are conjured ephemeral objects created fromdaedric entities. The practice of conjuring bound items falls within the domain of theConjurationschool of magic, specifically referred to asArmamancy.Practitioners of this art were known as armamancers, and sometimes as arcane warriors. Swords formed through this method are sometimes calledsummoned blades.Axes, on the other hand, were referred to asconjured axes.
