This policy defines the use ofglobal permissionson English Wikinews.
Use of rights
Stewards

Stewards may use global permissions on English Wikinews in the course of their duties as stewards:
- Global rollbackandglobal sysopfollowing the policies below,
- Oversight toolto suppress abusive usernames, and
- Emergency situations where local users are unable or unavailable to act.
In all other situations, please refer tolocal administrators.
Stewards can also:
- add theCheckUserandOversightpermissions following a successful request atWN:RFP.
- remove all permissions:
- in an emergency situation;
- in response to a user self-request;
- perArbitration Committeedecision; or
- per WMF Board decisions.
These actions can affect English Wikinews, but are carried out atm:Steward requests/Permissionsand logged atm:Special:Log/rights.

Global sysops

Global sysopscanuse their rights on this wiki. However, global sysops are asked to ensure that they only take action on obvious spam or vandalism, and refer tolocal administratorsotherwise as appropriate. Before taking action, global sysops should take time to study what content is acceptable on Wikinews, as this may differ substantially from other wikis. Global rollbackers

Global rollbackers may use the following functions on English Wikinews in the context of counter-vandalism efforts (unless they hold them separately in a local usergroup):
- rollback
- suppressredirect
- markbotedits
- noratelimit
However, the above is not permitted if:
- they previously had rollback removed at English Wikinews; or
- they were blocked in the last 90 days for edit warring on English Wikinews.
The only non-admin group with rollback arereviewers.If removal has previously occurred, they must request therevieweroradministratorpermission before they can use global rollback again.

Global interface editors and abuse filter editors

Such users are allowed to use the right on this wiki by default as per the rules on Meta-Wiki. Global interface editors must ensure that they comply with theprotection policy.
Removal of permissions
Note that, in general, English Wikinews admins retain the right to request a holder of a right above to stop using their tools if what they deem to be misuse occur, and the holder of such right must comply with such a request. Such a decision by an administrator can be appealed to thewider community.
A user who abuses their global permissions by knowingly or recklessly using their global permissions on English Wikinews in contravention of this policy should be reported tom:Steward requests/Permissionsor#wikimedia-stewardsimmediately, where the stewards will determine whether an emergency removal of permissions is required. An indefinite block may also be placed on the account locally during this period if necessary to prevent further abuse (see the above section).
