Early years

Richards was born on October 2, 2000, inPhiladelphia,Pennsylvania.[1]He attendedHaverford School,where he playedfootballandbasketball.[2]

On the football team, he spent most of his time as adefensive endandtight end.As ajunior,he received second-team All-Inter-Ac honors atdefensive end.

As asenior,he started the final four games atoffensive tackle.He received All-Inter-Ac League honors and a Mini Max award, given by theMaxwell Football Clubto the standout players in eastern Pennsylvania.[2]

Richards finished his high school career with 133 tackles (31 for loss), 13 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. He was ranked as a three-star prospect, the sixth-best recruit in the state and the 42nd-best tackle overall, he committed to playcollege footballatNorth Carolina.[3]

College career

As a true freshman in 2019, he appeared in 9 games, mostly in a backup role on theoffensive lineand onspecial teams.[4]

As a sophomore in 2020, he was named the full starter atleft tackle,starting in all but one of the 12 games of the season.[2]He was part of anoffensive linethat includedoffensive guardsJoshua EzeuduandMarcus McKethan.He also blocked for futureNFLplayersSam Howell,Javonte WilliamsandMichael Carter.

As a junior in 2021, he started all 13 games atleft tackleand blocked for futureNFLrunning backTy Chandler.[5]

As a senior in 2022, he started all 14 games atleft tackleand was named third-team all-conference after allowing only threesackson close to 1,050 snaps.[6]He blocked for quarterbackDrake Maye,helping the offense place third in theAtlantic Coast Conference(ACC) in points per game, second in passing yards per game and total yards per game, and first in rushing.[6][7]Although Richards had one year of eligibility remaining, he opted to enter the2023 NFL draft.[7]He finished with 38 career starts (37 atleft tackle,one atleft guard), including 34 consecutive. He was invited to the2023 Senior Bowl.[7]

Richards was selected by theDallas Cowboysin the fifth round (169th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.[10]As a rookie, he appeared in eight games in the 2023 season.[11]
