Charitonis anunincorporated communityin northeastPutnam County,in theU.S. stateofMissouri.[1]

History

A post office called Chariton was established in 1883 and remained in operation until 1907.[2]The community takes its name from the nearbyChariton River.[3]

Geography

Chariton is onMissouri Route DDtwo miles east ofMissouri Route 149.The Missouri-Iowaborder is one mile north of the community.Unionvilleis approximately 15 miles to the southwest.[4]
