Erin McGreehan(born July 1982)[1]is an IrishFianna Fáilpolitician who has served as aSenatorsince June 2020, after beingnominated by the Taoiseach.[2][3]
Early life
[edit]McGreehan grew up in Castletowncooley, atownlandin the north ofCounty Louth,and attended Mullaghbuoy National School and Bush Post Primary School.[4]
Personal life
[edit]McGreehan lives on theCooley Peninsulawith her partner, Donal McMorland, and their four children; they run an engineering business.[5]
Political career
[edit]Formerly a member ofÓgra Fianna Fáilin County Louth, she was elected to serve on the Ógra Fianna Fáil National Executive. She worked as a parliamentary assistant to SenatorDiarmuid Wilsonfor several years.
She served as a member ofLouth County Councilfrom 2019 to 2020.[6]In June 2020, she wasnominated by the Taoiseach,Micheál Martin,toSeanad Éireann.[7]Andrea McKevitt was co-opted to fill the vacancy onLouth County Councilfollowing her nomination to the Seanad.
McGreehan was appointed to the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters and the Oireachtas Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.[8]In 2024, the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters extended the Free Travel Pass to any person medically certified as unfit to drive.[9]
At a selection convention on 8 August 2024 in Dundalk, McGreehan was selected as the Fianna Fáil candidate at thenext general electionfor theLouthconstituency. She defeated party councillors Seán Kelly, Emma Coffey and John Sheridan.[10]
