Excepteris an experimental music group fromBrooklyn,founded in 2002 byNo-Neck Blues Bandmember John Fell Ryan. They have released their work on labels such asLoad Recordsand Animal Collective'sPaw Tracks,and are known for theirimprovisationalapproach to playing both live and in the studio.
The Village Voicealt-weeklyhas mentioned the subject of the band's attire, withbloggerand (former)Voicewriter, Nick Sylvester referring to them as having "oustedAnimal Collectiveas theVillage Peopleof Brooklyn Noise ".[1]The significance of their hats was noted several more times.[2]In 2007 thePendu Soundcompilation albumGetting rid of the gluewith Excepter andDaniel Carterwas listed as number 70 inThurston Moore's "Top 80 of 2006".[3][4]
Nathan Corbin and Clare Amory participated as drummers in theBoredoms77 Boadrumperformance which occurred on July 7, 2007 at theEmpire-Fulton Ferry State ParkinBrooklyn, New York.[citation needed]
Excepter was featured on the cover ofThe Wire's May 2010 issue.[5][6]
Member Clare Amory died of cancer on February 24, 2011.[7]
