John H. Coverdaleis a New Zealand-born academicpsychiatrist,educator and editor.He is currently a full professor ofpsychiatry,behavioral sciences,andmedical ethicsatBaylor College of Medicine.

Academic career

After promotion to associate professor at theUniversity of Auckland,Coverdale moved toBaylor College of Medicinein 2000, rising to full professor.He completed an MD from theUniversity of Otagoin 2004, with a thesis entitled'Family planning, sexually transmitted infections, and ethical challenges in managing decisions about contraception and pregnancy when patients have a major mental disorder.'

He has expertise inhuman trafficking,and he founded and co-directs the Baylor Anti-Human Trafficking Program.He is an educator and a senior editor of the journalsAcademic Medicineand Academic Psychiatry.
