Kurt Lambeck
ProfessorKurt LambeckAC,FRS,FAA,FRSN(born 20 September 1941 inUtrecht,Netherlands[1]) is Professor ofGeophysicsat theAustralian National UniversityinCanberra, Australia.He has also taught atUniversity of Parisand at Smithsonian and Harvard Observatories.[2]
His current research interests include the interactions between ice sheets, oceans and thesolid Earth,as well as changes in ocean levels and their impact on human populations.[3]
Honours and awards
[edit]Lambeck was President of theAustralian Academy of Sciencefrom 2006 to 2010. He is a Fellow of theRoyal Society of Londonand theRoyal Society of New South Wales,[4]as well as the recipient of many prestigious international awards.[3]He is a member of the French Academy of Science, the US National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Academia Europaea, and theNorwegian Academy of Science and Letters.[5]Lambeck is a foreign member of theRoyal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciencessince 1993.[6]
- 2012 Awarded a prestigiousBalzan Prizefor his work on Solid Earth Sciences, with emphasis on interdisciplinary research.
- 2013 Made a Chevalier de laLégion d'honneurby theGovernment of Francefor his work atCentre national d'études spatialesin the 1970s.[7]
- 2013 Awarded the highest award granted by theGeological Society of London,theWollaston Medalrecognizing lifetime achievements and service.
- 2015 Awarded theMatthew Flinders Medal and Lectureby theAustralian Academy of Science[8]
- 2018 Awarded thePrime Minister's Prize for Science[9]
- 2021 AppointedCompanion of the Order of Australia[10]
