Lin Yu-chun(Chinese:Lâm dục quần;pinyin:Lín Yùqún;Wade–Giles:Lin2Yü4-ch'ün2); born 9 March 1986 inTaipei) is aTaiwanesesinger, who gained fame by appearing on a Taiwanese talent show,One Million Star( siêu cấp tinh quang đại đạo ), singing "I Will Always Love You"(written and originally sung byDolly Parton) in the style ofWhitney Houston'scover version.[1]Lin is well known for hismezzo-soprano-like, and sometimes,contralto-likecountertenorsinging voice, although he has an adult speaking voice. According to many sources[which?],Lin's voice is usually described as a mixture of Whitney Houston and Susan Boyle, with a dash ofCher.When Lin sings in his normal masculine voice rather than in afalsettorange, his voice actually somewhat sounds likeJamie Walters,or even possibly likeJackson Browne,and to a lesser extent,George Harrison.[citation needed].In 2013, he competed in the second season ofThe Voice of China.
Biography
[edit]Lin was voted off the show, but after a video of Lin singing the song made it onto YouTube, Lin became aninternet celebrity,[2]receiving more than 10,000,000 views[3]of his performance. Many news sources dubbed Lin "Taiwan'sSusan Boyle".[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]In an interview, Lin Yu Chun explained that he selected "I Will Always Love You" to show his gratitude to his grandmother for taking care of Lin over the years.[11]
In April 2010, he visited the United States and performed "I Will Always Love You"[12][13]andAmazing Grace[14]onThe Ellen DeGeneres Show.On the same trip, he attendedLopez Tonightand performed "Saving All My Love for You"[15](also a Whitney Houston cover) andTotal Eclipse of the Heart(originally byBonnie Tyler) as a duet withWilliam Shatner.[16][17]
Sony Music Taiwanannounced they had signed Lin Yu Chun to a record deal.[18][19]Lin Yu-chun's signing press conference occurred on 13 May 2010, and was held in Shanghai San Want Hotel.
On 22 May 2010, atDodger Stadiumduring aLos Angeles Dodgersgame, he sang "The Star-Spangled Banner","God Bless America"and" Taiwan, Touch Your Heart ". On 11 August 2010 Lin sangWhitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You"onAmerica's Got Talent season 5on the YouTube selection episode, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. Lin has been slated to play the role ofLiu Lucyfor theHBO Asiaproduced miniseriesUntold Stories of 1949.In 2013, he competed in the second season ofThe Voice of China.

It contains four songs from Lin's upcoming international debut,It's My Time,and a Japanese-only bonus track, "Hello,"a Japanese cover ofLionel Richie's hit from 1984.[20]

[edit]Lin's full-length international debut album,It's My Time,was released on 17 September 2010, as a compilation of English-language pop songs previously recorded by major artists such asMariah Carey,Kelly Clarkson,etc. The song "Under Your Wings" was written new for this album by Grammy-winning musicianWalter Afanasieff.[21]
