Richard Mark Bonnar(born 19 November 1968)[citation needed]is a Scottish actor. He is known for his roles as Max inGuilt,Duncan Hunter inShetland,Bruno Jenkins inCasualty,Detective Finney inPsychoville,DCC Mike Dryden inLine of Duty,Colin Osborne inUnforgotten,BlackbeardinAssasin's Creed IV: Black Flag,Townsend inBattlefield 1andField inSummer of Rockets.
Career
[edit]On television, Bonnar has appeared as Peter Mayhew inBBC One'sNew Bloodand Chris in theChannel 4comedyCatastrophe,a role which he reprised in the following series. He also portrays the Rev. Adam Collingbourne inITV'sHome Fires,John Halliday inUndercover,as well as regular Duncan Hunter inShetlandfor BBC One. Other television credits includeVera,Grantchester,Case Histories,The Paradise,Doctor Who,Psychoville,Taggart,PhoneshopandParadox.In 2005, he portrayed regular Bruno Jenkins in the BBC One seriesCasualty.In 2018, he portrayed Dr Neil Sommer in the Channel 4 seriesHumans.

Bonnar provided the voice andmotion captureforEdward "Blackbeard" Thatchin the 2013 video gameAssassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.[2]He also provides the voice and motion capture forTownsendin the 2016 gameBattlefield 1.He also features in theDoctor WhoseriesDoom CoalitionfromBig Finish Productions,where he portrays the Eleven, a villainous Time Lord who retains the personalities of his past incarnations in his mind.
Bonnar also voices Twigs and Box in theCBeebiesseriesTree Fu Tom.[3]
Personal life
[edit]Bonnar was born inEdinburghto environmental artist Stan[4]and his wife Rosi. Stan's job as town artist for the Scottish New Towns meant the family moved around and Mark spent his childhood inStonehouse, South Lanarkshire,attending Townhead Primary School in Stonehouse.[5]Bonnar has presented a BBC documentary on the new towns titledMeet You at the Hippos.[6]
By 1981 the family had moved to Edinburgh and Mark attendedLeith Academy.Mark attended school with futureGuiltco-starJamie Sives.[7]He married actressLucy Gaskellon 28 December 2007. Their first child, Martha, was born in July 2011, and their second, Samuel, in June 2015.[8]
