Mason Chadwick Shefa(/ˈʃɛfə/SHEF;born May 28, 1993) is anavant-gardefilmmaker[1]andsacred musiccomposerbased inStudio City,California.[2][3]He graduated fromYale University[4]in 2015. For his films, Shefa utilizes film formats such asSuper-8and16mm.[5]In 2016, Shefa published a 248-page collection of his sacred works fora cappellachorus, entitledThe First Book of Music: Containing Anthems, Motets, Hymn Tunes, Chants, and Services for the Various Seasons of the Church Year.[6]

In May 2011, Shefa received the National Gold Medal at the 2011Scholastic Art and Writing Awards,held inCarnegie Hall,for his portfolio of eightexperimental films.[7][8][9]Shefa's films have also been recognized with honors from theNational Foundation for Advancement in the Arts,[10]the 2009 and 2011Los Angeles Film Festival,[11]theUniversity of Southern California’sLos AngelesStudent Film Institute, theDanvilleInternational Children’s Film Festival, L.A.’s FilmFest 43, the Harvard-Westlake Film Festival,[12]the South Bay Student Video Festival,[13]and the Spotlight The Arts festival inCalabasas, California.

In September 2012,singer/songwriterLana Del Reyobtained permission to incorporate Shefa's film,Psalm 51,in heriTunes Festivalconcert inLondon,United Kingdom.

In February 2015, Shefa was a member of the judges panel of the "concorso internazionale di cortometraggi" category of the 2015Lucca Film Festival.[14]
