Meitar(Hebrew:מֵיתָר) is a smalllocal councilnorth-east ofBeersheba,inIsrael'sSouthern District.The town lies onHighway 60just south of theGreen Lineon the southern edge ofMount Hebron,alongside theYatir Forest.Metar is 19 km north ofBeer-Shevaand is in between the twoBedouintowns ofHuraandLaqiya.In 2022 it had a population of 10,947.[1]
With a land area of 16,696dunams(~16.7 km2), Meitar is ranked very highly on the Israeli socio-economic scale, with a score of 9/10.[2]
History
[edit]Meitar was founded in 1984. The area drew national attention during theShai Dromitrial.
