Rhoecus

Rhoecus(orRhaecus,Rhœcus,Rhæcus,Rhoikos) (Ancient Greek:Ῥοῖκός) was aSamiansculptor of the 6th century BCE. He and his sonTheodoruswere especially noted for their work inbronze.Herodotussays that Rhoecus built the temple ofHeraat Samos, which was destroyed by fire c. 530 BCE. In the temple ofArtemisatEphesuswas amarblefigure of night by Rhoecus. His name has been found on a fragment of a vase which he dedicated toAphroditeatNaucratis.His sons Theodorus and Telecles made a statue of thePythian Apollofor the Samians.

Rhoecus was also the name of acentaur,who together with another centaur called Hylaeus, tried to rapeAtalanta,but she killed them both.[1][2]
