Swissmintis the officialmintof theSwiss Confederation.Located in the Swiss capital cityBern,it is responsible for manufacturingSwiss franccoins,both of the currency andbullionvariety. Apart from making coins for the government, Swissmint also manufactures medals and commemorative coins for private customers.
Status
[edit]Swissmint is an agency of theSwiss federal government.It is part of theFederal Finance Administration,which in turn belongs to theFederal Department of Finance.Since 1998, the Official Mint of the Confederation operates as an independent business unit under the nameSwissmint.As of 2005, Swissmint has 21 employees.
Building
[edit]The mint's building is aheritage site of national significance.[1]It was built in 1903–06 based on designs byTheodor Gohlto replace an older building at theGerberngraben.The sober, industrial-style yellow brick building is fronted by aNeo-Renaissancefaçade in marble and sandstone.[2]
