Tuddenhamis a village andcivil parishin theWest Suffolkdistrict ofSuffolkin easternEngland.In 2005 it had a population of 450.[1]falling to 423 at the 2011 Census.[2]
RAF Tuddenham
[edit]Between 1943 and 1963,RAF Tuddenhamwas aRoyal Air Forcestationclose to the village. During theSecond World War,Short StirlingandAvro LancastersSquadrons were stationed at the base, and between 1959 and 1963,107 Squadronoperated threeThor nuclear missiles.Today, the site has been returned to agricultural use, and little remains of the airfield facilities.[3]
Local features
[edit]The nearby Cavenham Heath National Nature Reserve is breeding ground of stone curlews and woodlarks.
TheIcknield Way Pathpasses through the village on its 110-mile journey fromIvinghoe Beaconin Buckinghamshire toKnettishall Heathin Suffolk. The Icknield Way Trail, a multi-user route for walkers, horse riders and off-road cyclists also passes through the village.
