The1886 Maine gubernatorial electionwas held on 13 September 1886 in order to elect theGovernor of Maine.Republicannominee and former Mayor ofHallowellJoseph R. BodwelldefeatedDemocraticnominee Clark S. Edwards andProhibitionnominee Aaron Clark.[1]
General election[edit]
On election day, 13 September 1886,RepublicannomineeJoseph R. Bodwellwon the election by a margin of 13,561 votes against his foremost opponentDemocraticnominee Clark S. Edwards, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of governor. Bodwell was sworn in as the 40thGovernor of Maineon 5 January 1887.[2]
