On January 27, 2002, aRussian Interior MinistryMil Mi-8was shot down and exploded nearShelkovskayain Nadterechny District, killing 14 people including crew. Among those killed in the crash wereLieutenant-GeneralMikhail Rudchenko responsible for security in theSouthern Federal District,andMajor-GeneralNikolai Goridov,deputy commander of theInternal Troops,as well asColonelsOriyenko, Stepanenko, and Trafimov.[1]
