The2025 World Athletics Championships(Japanese:2025 niên thế giới lục thượng cạnh kỹ tuyển thủ 権 đại hội ) will be the twentieth edition of theWorld Athletics Championships,and are scheduled to be held from 13 to 21 September 2025 inTokyo,[1]Japan. The championships will use theNational Stadium,rebuilt for theTokyo 2020Olympic and Paralympic Games.[2]

This is the third time that the championships will be held in Japan, following the2007event inOsaka,and the1991event in Tokyo at theold National Stadium.[2]

Host selection[edit]

In October 2019,World AthleticsPresidentSebastian Coestated consideration of a direct choice for Kenya to host this championship.[7][8]Kenya confirmed its bid for the championships in October 2021.[3]In 2022, Japan and Singapore entered bids to host the championships.[5][4][9]In July 2022, Tokyo was selected by World Athletics to host the 2025 event,[2]after it scored the highest in the bid evaluation. The National Stadium in Tokyo will be the first major spectator event for athletics after the2020 Summer Olympicswere heldbehind closed doorsin response with the then-still ongoingCOVID-19 pandemic.[10][11]Coe welcomed the selection, but stated that his "ambition to see a World Championships in Africa.. is undiminished".[12]
