Ab Fafié(4 March 1941 – 27 November 2012) was a Dutch professionalfootballplayer and manager.
Playing career

[edit]Fafié made his debut for hometown clubFeijenoordagainstFortuna '54[1]in 1959[2]and also played for Rotterdam clubXerxesas well as forPSV.During an injury-hit spell he only played 13 games for theEindhovenaren.[3][4]
Managerial career
[edit]Fafié became assistant toFeyenoordmanagerHans Kraayin 1981 and was named caretaker after Kraay's dismissal in 1983. He took charge in 1984 afterThijs Libregtswas sacked and ended up third in theEredivisiein both his seasons at the helm.[5]He later managed a number of teams throughout Europe, includingAEK Athens,AA Gent,[6]FC UtrechtandGo Ahead Eagleswhere he had succeeded the dismissedHenk Ten Cate.[7][4]
FC Utrecht
[edit]At Utrecht, he earned the nicknameKing Abafter steering them to European football with a fourth-placed finish in his first season.[8]The club crashed out of next year'sUEFA Cupto Spanish giantsReal Madridand after some less successful seasons, Fafié was given the sack in 1994.[9]
He also had spells in charge at two Indonesian clubs[10]and coached the final years of his life at amateur sides CVV, Overmaas, WSE and NBSVV.[5]
Personal life
