Abdul Mu'iz bin Sisa(born 20 April 1991) is a Bruneian professionalfootballerwho plays forDPMM FCand theBrunei national teamas aleft-sided full-back.[1]He previously played forIndera SCwhere he won the first twoBrunei Super Leaguechampionships in2012–13and2014.[2]

Club career

Abdul Mu'iz rose through the ranks from the youth system ofIndera SC.He appeared regularly at left back for Indera starting from the2007-08season,[3]winning the Bruneian league championship twice and thePiala Sumbangsihonce.

Abdul Mu'iz was granted the opportunity to play for Brunei's sole professional sideDPMM FCin 2016 after a season-ending injury toSairol Sahariforced theGegar Gegarmen to look for a local left-back to provide additional cover to the position.[4]Already an established Bruneian international, he joined in June 2016 after a successful trial.[5]

Abdul Mu'iz made his DPMM debut on 26 September 2016 againstYoung Lionsin a 5–3 win.[6]

On 4 December 2022, Abdul Mu'iz played in the final of the2022 Brunei FA Cupwhere he was taken off injured at the half-hour mark. His team won the match 2–1 againstKasuka FC,bringing Abdul Mu'iz his first FA Cup winner's medal.[7]

International career

Abdul Mu'iz started his international career with theunder-21side of the national team. He was an unused squad player for the2007 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy,[8]but appeared in every match for the2012 edition,winning the trophy on home soil.[9]

Abdul Mu'iz next laced up with theunder-23 teamfor the27th SEA Gamesheld inMyanmarin December 2013.[10]Brunei lost every game to finish rock bottom of their group.

Abdul Mu'iz was selected for the2018 World Cup qualifying First Round for AFCtwo-legged clash againstChinese Taipeiin March 2015.[11]He started both legs in a 1-2 aggregate loss.[12][13]He appeared in friendlies againstSingaporeandCambodialater that year, scoring with a chip in the former game.[14]

Abdul Mu'iz was selected by the national team for the2018 AFF Suzuki Cup qualificationmatches againstTimor-Lestein early September.[15]He came on in the second half of the first leg which was a 3–1 loss inKuala Lumpuron 1 September.[16]He was a starter at left-back in the return leg atHassanal Bolkiah National Stadiumthe following week, the match resulted in a 1–0 win which was not enough to send Brunei to the group stages of the Suzuki Cup.[17]

In June 2019 Abdul Mu'iz was to be recalled to the national team byRobbie Servaisfor the2022 World Cup qualificationmatches, but he decided to decline due to unspecified reasons.[18]

Abdul Mu'iz was selected for the Wasps for the two-legged2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup qualifying matchesagainstTimor-LesteinBandar Seri Begawanin early November 2022. He started the second match which was a 1–0 loss to Brunei but still advanced to thegroup stagesvia a 6–3 aggregate win.[19][20]He played twice in the tournament againstthe PhilippinesandCambodia,both games ending 5–1 to the opponent.[21]

On 11 September 2023, Abdul Mu'iz started the away game againstHong Kongwhich finished 10–0 to the home side.[22]He was subsequently selected for the2026 World Cup qualificationmatches againstIndonesiathe following month, and started the first leg in a 6–0 loss.[23]The round ended with Brunei's elimination from the 2026 World Cup in a 0–12 aggregate.[24]
