Achyrodonis anextinctgenusofmammalfrom theBerriasianepoch ofEarly CretaceoussouthernEngland.The taxon was first described byRichard Owenin1871for teeth from theLulworth Formation.[1]The taxon has been considered a synonym of co-existingAmblotherium pusillum,but can be distinguished by differences in the dental anatomy and an overall smaller size.Achyrodonwas closely related to co-existing genusPhascolestesand the slightly younger European formCrusafontia,and together they make up the subfamilyKurtodontinaewithinDryolestidae,a family of early mammals between modernmonotremesandtherianswith no living descendants.[2]
