TheActinomycetaceae(often called actinomycetes or mycelial bacteria) are a family of bacteria in the orderActinomycetalesthat contains the medically important genusActinomyces. These organisms are closely related to the mycobacteria, but were originally classified as fungi because they were thought to be transitional forms betweenbacteriaandfungi.

The currently accepted taxonomy is based on theList of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature(LPSN).[2]The phylogeny is based on whole-genome analysis.[3][a]
