Aggala(Sinhala:අග්ගලා) are a traditionalSri Lankansweet.[1]They are essentially sweet roasted rice balls, made from rice, coconut, jaggery or treacle and pepper.[2][3]

Traditionally sun-dried boiled rice isgroundinto a powder (alternativelyrice flourcan be used) and mixed with fresh shredded or desiccatedcoconut,shavedjaggery(which can be substituted withKithul treacleor sugar), pepper and water until it forms a thick paste. The mixture is then rolled into small balls, and coated with rice powder/flour.[4]Other recipes include the addition ofcinnamoninto the mixture and coating the balls with roastedsesame seeds.They are eaten as snacks.
