Al-Shams(meaningthe Sunin English) is anArabic languagedaily newspaper published inLibya.

History and profile

Al Shamswas established in 1962 byMoammar Gadhafiwhen he was a student.[1]The same year it was closed down.[1]It was relaunched in 1993 following the revolution in the country.[1]The paper was run by the Libyan government.[2][3]Abdul Hakim Maatouk served as theeditor-in-chiefof the paper.[4]

In September 2011 the paper temporarily ceased publication following the2011 Libyan civil war.[5]As of 2013 it was affiliated with the Public Press Institution.[citation needed]
