Vice AdmiralAlister Francis BealCBCMGDSO(21 March 1875 – 18 October 1962) was aRoyal Navyofficer who became Commodore Commanding theNew Zealand Division.

Beal joined the Royal Navy as a 13-year-old on 15 July 1888.[1]He was commissioned as amidshipmanin 1894[2]and served inWorld War Ibecomingcommanding officerof thecruiserHMS Weymouthin February 1918[3]and being awarded theDSOfor his services at the bombardment ofDurazzoin October 1918.[4]

He went on to CommandHMSChatham(which had been lent to the New Zealand Station) in July 1923[3]before becoming Commodore Commanding theNew Zealand Divisionin August 1923 until he retired in 1926.[5]He was appointed aCompanion of the Order of the Bathin the1926 King's Birthday Honours[6]and promoted toVice-Admiralwhile on the retired list.[7]

Beal was appointed as an Officer of the FrenchLegion of Honourwhile serving onHMS Weymouth.He was awarded the ItalianSilver Medal of Military Valorfor operations atDurazzoon 2 October 1918.[8]
