Alpha Sculptoris,Latinizedfrom α Sculptoris, is theBayer designationfor a blue-whitestarin the southernconstellationofSculptor. It has anapparent visual magnitudeof +4.30,[2]which makes it thebrightest starin this generally faint constellation.Parallaxmeasurements collected during theHipparcosmission provide a distance estimate for this star, placing it at roughly 780light-years(240parsecs), with a 4%margin of error.[1]

Alpha Sculptoris is aB-typegiant star.It is classified as anSX Arietis typevariable starand its magnitude varies by less than a tenth of a magnitude.[5]

Theluminosityof α Scl is around 1,500 times that of theSunwhile its surface temperature is 13,600K.The radius of Alpha Sculptoris is calculated to be seven times solar while itsmassis five times that of the Sun.
